Google-Mitarbeiter erklärt Android-Update-Prozess
Auf Reddit hat ein Google Mitarbeiter nochmals den Ablauf erklärt, nach dem das Unternehmen neue Update an die Nexus-Geräte austeilt: Demnach hilft es nichts, wenn man ständig manuell nach dem Update sucht; stattdessen braucht man Geduld und etwas Glück.

Google funktioniert, bekommt nun eine detaillierte Antwort: Auf Reddit hat der Google Mitarbeiter Dan Morrill beschrieben, warum es manche Smartphones und Tablets die Updates erst später bekommen und das es nichts hilft den Update-Button ständig zu betätigen.
Demnach bekommt ein Gerät nur dann das Update, wenn es innerhalb der Phase gleich beim ersten Checkin ausgewählt wird. Sollte das Smartphone oder Tablet beim ersten Versuch keines bekommen, wird es das auch bis zum Ablauf der Phase nicht bekommen. In dem Fall hilft es also nichts, alle paar Minuten manuell auf Updates zu prüfen.
„Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.
What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn't (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch. IOW, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that's it until the next batch.
All diese Informationen sind nicht wirklich neu; immerhin rollt Google seine Update schon seit langem nur in Wellen aus. Da aber derzeit viele auf das neue Android 4.4 Update warten und langsam ungeduldig werde, ist diese Information sicher zum Verständnis hilfreich.
